Upptäck historien om Bangkok

Bangkok is a river city, and everything happens along the Chao Phraya, worked by commuter boats from dawn until dark. On one bank stand the gold and glass mosaic of the Grand Palace, with the Emerald Buddha high on its altar in Wat Phra Kaew; on the other, the spire of Wat Arun, encrusted with broken porcelain, catching fire at dusk. Inside Wat Pho a forty-six-metre reclining Buddha fills the entire hall, the soles of its feet inlaid with mother-of-pearl. Around all this the city is dense, loud and endlessly edible: street carts turn out pad thai and green papaya salad for a few baht, and Chatuchak Weekend Market unrolls thousands of stalls on Saturdays and Sundays. Lumphini Park is the green breath in the middle, monitor lizards crossing the lawns. Rooftop bars watch the whole thing from a long way up.
